HyCool: Solar Steam and Solar Cooling through Hybrid-System

HyCool is an R&D project co-funded by the European Commission. The project started by the 1st of May 2018 and will last until the beginning of 2021.

The consortium contains of 16 companies from Italy, Spain, Germany, Swizz and Turkey and Austria including Ecotherm, which plays an important role in the project implementation.

Three new technologies will be developed and combined into an entire system. Therefore the name HyCool, which comes from Hybrid and (solar) Cooling. An overriding energy management and most of the components that are required for the interaction of the new technologies will be provided and delivered by Ecotherm. This includes steam drums, heat exchangers, stainless steel tanks, pump groups, steam components and pressure control units.

The mission is to increase the current use of solar heat in industrial processes. In the announcement given by the EU, a real implementation (near-to-market solution) was demanded and not a limitation to research and development only. Energy savings will be demonstrated by comparing the measuring data before and after the installation of the system. In order to reach the mandatory climate goals, the aim of the project is the implementation of renewable energies in the industry without carbon emissions.
